Peter Dawes – Oakapple

If you’ve looked at About Me you’ll already know my background is in languages. And I certainly feel I’ve seen it from all sides. From the many ‘Je m’apple Chris’ authors, to earning a crust marking exam tapes (“Ich habe ein Hund heisst Tyson” delivered in a Scouse accent, followed by virtual silence for 3 mins…). To the pupil who enters oral exam room, and after the usual formalities we get onto roleplay number one. It’s set in a restaurant and I dutifully ask, ”Vous désirez?” to which he replies, as per instruction on card, “Ah wooed lahk surme ‘am and cheeps” in his finest Clouseau accent. Inwardly weeping with laughter, I managed to somehow keep a straight face and continue. I feel this may rank as my finest linguistic achievement.
